Frequently Asked Questions

What is a perpetual funding rate and how does it work?

A perpetual funding rate is a periodic payment exchanged between long and short holders of a perpetual futures contract to keep the perp price tethered to the spot price. Most exchanges settle funding every 8 hours; some (like Hyperliquid and Drift) settle hourly or continuously. When the rate is positive, longs pay shorts; when negative, shorts pay longs.

How do I find the highest funding rate for a coin?

Open the coin's detail page (for example /funding/coin/btc) to see live funding rates from every supported exchange ranked by basis points and annualized APY. The page also shows a 30-day historical chart and a heatmap so you can identify which exchanges consistently pay the highest funding for that asset.

How can I use funding rates for arbitrage?

When the same coin has very different funding rates across exchanges, you can go long on the exchange paying the lowest (or most negative) rate and short on the exchange paying the highest rate. The position is delta-neutral, so price moves cancel out and you collect the funding-rate spread. Use the per-coin pages to spot the largest cross-exchange spreads.

How often is funding rate data on Loris Tools updated?

Live funding rates are pulled from each exchange roughly every 30 seconds. Per-coin and per-exchange pages refresh on a 5-minute ISR window for crawlability and a few seconds in the user's browser via React Query. Historical data is sourced from ClickHouse and refreshed hourly.

Why are some coins missing or only listed on a few exchanges?

Loris Tools tracks every coin that has at least one listed perpetual futures contract on a supported exchange. New listings, low-volume tokens, and stock-perp synthetics may only appear on one or two venues until more exchanges list them.
